About the role

Risk Management Department Manager is responsible for regularly assessing the effectiveness of the Risk Management System framework, considering control processes, ensuring that all risks and control weaknesses are identified, escalated and mitigated, leading and developing the risk management team, as well as supporting the Chief Risk Officer and the ERGO Group’s global activities in this area.

How you will get the job done

  • implementing the risk management strategy, including supporting the CRO in strengthening the risk management culture within the organisation
  • monitoring the effectiveness of the risk management framework and its evolution
  • identifying and quantifying the organisation’s ‘risk appetite’ and ensuring an appropriate approach to risk
  • conducting risk analyses over defined time horizons: analysing identified, current risks and supporting the identification of new, potential risks that affect the organisation
  • evaluating the existing risk treatment and comparing potential risks with criteria defined by the company, such as costs or legal requirements
  • evaluating IT risks and aligning mitigation strategies with wider ERGO Group risk mitigation initiatives
  • risk reporting aligned with relevant stakeholders
  • fully collaborating with the CRO including communication about key risks in the organisation
  • ensuring that 1st LoD understands the risks that may affect their areas, which includes ensuring that individual risk owners understand their own responsibility for the risks belonging to them, by providing proactive and practical risk management advice to business managers and support functions
  • building risk awareness within the organisation through the provision of support, educational campaigns and training within the organisation
  • developing, leading and motivating the Risk Team to maximise effectiveness as well as educating and training

Skills and experience you will need

  • fluency in written and spoken English
  • completed university degree, preferably in Mathematics and/or Economics and/or Business Information Systems Technology or comparable studies
  • 7-8 years of experience in risk management, internal control or internal audit
  • experience in data analysis and performance reporting at various management levels (including executive level)
  • experience working with various international stakeholders
  • strong understanding of the economics and business environment related to service delivery
  • excellent analytical thinking skills and attention to detail
  • very high level of commitment, results and performance orientation
  • experience in managing multiple targets, schedules and deliverables
  • ability to lead the activities of others and excellent negotiation, decision-making, communication and training skills
  • experience working in teams located in multiple locations

Nice to have

  • knowledge of the German language
  • knowledge of supervisory regulations and recommendations of the FSC and/or BaFin for the insurance market sector
  • knowledge of IT technology combined with an understanding of the general context of business processes
  • knowledge of ISO standards from native 27000, 31000 and COBIT standards
  • experience in IT risk management
